In defense of Vijay Mallya: The victim of moral policing and envy

I get fed up with all these talks of Kingfisher falling on its nose and people talking about the end of an empire. For Vijay Mallya will strive hard and will bounce back to be the “King of Good Times”, again. I also feel pity for those who have strong disregard for the genius in Vijay Mallya just to make sure that they are always on the greener side of conscience and morality.

Here is a man who has actually succeeded in building a truly Indian home-grown International brand in Kingfisher. Vijay Mallya has defined the very meaning of “thinking out of the box” by driving UB group to the pinnacle of spirits business both in domestic as well as International market.

I, personally, am against alcoholism as such but if you look at him in a purely business frame of mind, this person is an example of how you should go about your business. There is a huge group of people, who refuse to acknowledge this fact just because he is mainly in the liquor business, but that does not bother me.

Technically, he is doing a valid business according to the Indian constitution and the Government of India is the one that gains the most out of it in terms of revenue generated as tax and duty.

In one of his speeches at a premier institute in India, he openly admits that amidst the infinite regulations that restrict his industry from advertising in public, he has taken it up to himself to be a brand ambassador for the Kingfisher. The whole “King of Good Times” aura is just a cloak that covers the impeccable genius of this mastermind.

Eventually, it is this larger than life portrayal that allows Vijay Mallya to make people aspire for the things that he stands for. Who are we to say what he is doing is right or wrong. If liquor business is really that bad, then why did not our democratic government put a ban on it long back when economic depression along with alcoholism was causing huge number of suicides in India?

All that our Government do is to increase the tax and duty on the liquor being sold, with a distant hope that someday the drunkards will stop their ill-fated habit as they run out of money to buy any more. How pathetic!

As far as Vijay Mallya is concerned, he will steady his ship, sooner or later, as he is a seasoned campaigner and this dip in business is just another turn for him.

  1. Money earned by spoiling other's health and families will never stay... Dont know how many mothers out there are crying everyday coz her son is a drunkard, or widows who lost their husbands for alcohol.. Some people praise people like mallya, but I spit on his business.. I will really appreciate him if he does anything but alcohol business...
